DRINKS

The tap water is safe to drink but you may find it has a chemical taste. You can buy bottled water, either fizzy (frizzante) or still (naturale) available from any suermarket. Coffee with milk is cappucino. If you ask forjust coffee you will get a small espresso, which is short for black.

PHONING HOME

Most public telephone box’s take coins, but the easiest way is to buy a phone card worth from 5 euros- from reception or a tobaconist. Cheap rate is from 22:00 hrs Monday to Friday and from 18:00hrs Saturday and Sunday.

To call:

• Lift receiver and wait for dialling tone.
• Insert phone card (remember to take off the corner)
• Dial 00 44 then the STD code, omitting the first zero, then the number.
• A short buzz while you are speaking indicates you are running out of credit.
• When the call is finished, replace the receiver, the card will automatically be ejected below.
