SHOPS

The shops in Italy are generally open from 9:00 - 12:30 and 15:30 - 19:30. Half day closing is normally Monday morning, but for good shops it is Thursday afternoon. Many shops take credit cards and English currency but always confirm the rate first!

 

CHEMIST

Chemists usually display a green cross and are called “Farmacia". Unlike English chemists they do not sell perfume and only certain cosmetics. Well known brands are purchased at the Profumaria. For items like repellent, deodorant, suntan cremes etc, it would be cheaper going to a supermarket.

 

POST OFFICE

The sign for a post office is a yellow sign with PT printed in blue. Post office hours are Monday- Friday 08.15 - 13.30, and Saturday 08.15 - 12.20. Postage to the UK is 62c for letters and postcards. There are post offices situated in Piazza Brecia, Milano and Mazzini. Post boxes are red in colour

and normally outside the tobacconists.

 

TOBACCONIST

A Tobacconist is called "Tabacchi" in Italian and displays a large black or blue sign with a large white letter T. Here you can buy stamps, bus tickets, telephone / birthday cards, cigarrettes and sweets.

 

BRlTlSH NEWSPAPERS / MAGAZlNES

On sale form newsagents and will be one day late. Prices can range from 2.0 euros for a newspaper and 3.0 euros for a magazine. We have a library box for all magazines / books for when you have finnished so we can pass them on to other guests.

 

BANKS

Most banks are open from 8:30 -13:15 and 14:45 - 15:45. Remember to take your passports with you to change money. Cash can be obtained with credit cards over the counter or by using your pin number via cash points. You can exchange money and cash travellers cheques at Cambia / Foreign Exchanges offices, with your representative and at the Hotel D’annunzio.
